Morgan Wilhelm (they/them) is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist who has been teaching piano lessons throughout the Portland area since 2022. They work with students of all ages and backgrounds and especially enjoy helping neurodivergent learners thrive through individualized, flexible teaching approaches. Morgan believes that musical ability is cumulative, and that a strong foundation in the fundamentals provides the basis for lifelong musicianship. They strive to create an encouraging, patient, and inclusive learning environment where every student can build confidence, develop technical skills, and discover a genuine love of music.
Morgan Wilhelm (they/them) is an oboist and pianist. They received their Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Alaska, Anchorage in 2022. While completing their undergraduate education they played first chair oboe in the Alaska Youth Orchestras and in their senior year served as the Section Mentor and orchestra librarian. They specialize in the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras of music history, solfege, and rhythm.
Morgan believes that music is fundamentally a language, and approaches teaching it the way a language teacher would. Just like learning to speak, students must internalize the grammar, vocabulary, and expressive nuance of music through regular practice, listening, and repetition. Their role is to guide the student in building fluency. This means helping the student not only play notes on a page but communicate ideas, emotions, and stories through sound. This mindset shapes every part of their teaching: they focus on fundamentals, encourage creative expression, and foster confidence so that each student can develop their own musical voice.
They are active in the local classical music scene and volunteer their time as the Music Librarian with Blueprint Ensemble Arts. Outside of music they are a visual artist, small business administrative consultant, and spend weekend mornings picking up trash at local parks.
